Amtgard

Amtgard is a non-profit educational corporation dedicated to the study and recreation of the medieval eras and fantasy genres. Amtgard is also a live-action roleplaying game (LARP) that endeavors to recreate individual and group combat from the periods mentioned above.

Amtgard weapons are safe, foam-padded replicas of the real things. Amtgard battlegames range from tourneys and duels (one-on-one combat) to quests versus monsters and other fell folk to grand melees and wars between kingdoms that involve hundreds of individuals. All battlegames and scenarios are covered by a comprehensive set of rules. (Rulebook (free!))

We meet at North Riverside Park (near the standing stones), every Saturday at 4 pm. (Map)

Our group is still in the fledgling stages, but when we are averaging between 15-20 people a week we will start holding quests to distribute relics. There also will be plenty of opportunity to become an officer if you are interested. As there are no other Amtgard groups in Kansas that are known, we could eventually form up our own kingdom, grant knighthoods, and host wars.

Amtgard started over 25 years ago in Texas, and has now spread over most of the United States and overseas as well. Garb rules are not overly strict, but it is encouraged at our park. No protective equipment will be needed on your part, our weapons are soft and safe, checked by the Champion before each game day. They are also inexpensive and simple to build should you wish to have your own. Some people choose to wear knee pads or catcher's guards for their own comfort when fighting "legged". There are many monster classes and 12 "standard" classes to play. Currently we do various open combat and capture the flag type games, but with more people there can be even more variations, including "jugging", Amtgard football, live combat chess and more.

If you have any questions you can contact JaradLJaradL or email "descending_harmony(at)yahoo(dot)com". Please put "Amtgard" in the subject line or it may not make it past spam filters.

JaradL is no longer in charge of the Amtgard gathering (resigned due to schedule conflict with employment). There have been rumors about the rest of the group choosing to disband.
There is a Dagorhir group starting in the area, meeting at the same location on Saturdays at noon. Will try to get someone in charge from that group to post information here.
